So, for those of you that don’t know, I was out in Utah last week doing some work and mixing in a little play. Chris and I decided to head up to Brighton, which is in the Wasatch Forest outside of Salt Lake City, for some snowboarding. I’m definitely going to let the photos do most of the talking this time. (No, really.)

But let me say that if you head to Salt Lake City, stop in to Squatter’s Pub (Salt Lake Brewing Co. beers) for a Bison Burger and a six beer sampler of some of their award-winning brews. Later, head to the Acme Burger Company, which is a wonderful blend of old school diner mixed with the new school respect for gourmet burgers. If you have the brass to eat their 24oz. burger, send me a picture of the misery you’re in afterwards.

Here’s the goods!

Oddly, this was my first encounter with a mountainscape like this. It was pretty amazing flying over the Rocky Mountain range on the way in to Salt Lake City. There is so much beauty in nature to see. It really makes you realize how small you are in the big picture.

The slopes were amazing. Considering I’ve done all of my snowboarding (since I was 13) on the east coast, being out west was a treat. We were at 10,700 feet at the top of the mountain. On Saturday morning we were blessed with 7 inches of fresh powder from the overnight and 2-3 of nonstop additional snow all day long. Beautiful to the eyes and heaven for the board.

I will say that I never realized how difficult boarding in western powder up to your knees would be. What a workout! Can’t wait to get back out there again, hopefully for a week in Aspen somewhere down the road. It was definitely a great trip, and Brighton is a boarder paradise with some sic terrain parks extending the entire drop. Half pipe was a bit icy, but we spent most of our time shredding the slopes anyway.

See you out there!
