On Sunday, April 6th, some of the strongest, most competitive professional cornholers in the northern hemisphere descended upon Charlotte, North Carolina for an early spring big money tournament. We weren’t included in that group… But, they did let me and a few friends partake!
Team “Creamed Corn” (left above) turned out to be one of the nicest, most well- behaved and inspiring teams of the day. They were also, questionably, one of the worst. Over the course of four games, I believe they only amassed like 7 points. You may think I joke, but I’m pretty sure I’m accurate. That’s Joy and Richard with their “losing” pose; for shame.
The form on these sports is just awesome! But, I think the “prettiest” toss of the day goes to the Jamaican Sensation, Lee. Such grace and style.
Team “American Indian” fared a little better, but still came out on the losing end. That guy behind Lee, the one with the wicked awesome goat a la the Son of Ghoul, is ranked like 17th in the world. Yeah, there are world rankings, little did you know. We played strong but ended up in the losing bracket after the first round. But, in the losing bracket, we made it past three teams only to fall a couple rounds before the finals. The crowd responded with disdain.
All in all a great day! If you ever have $20 and an afternoon free, you should totally find a tourney in your town and have it out! There’s little better than hanging with the friends on a sunny afternoon tossing some bags around! See you out there!
